Frequently asked questions

What are the differences between EuropeFX Standard and EuropeFX Pro accounts?

All EuropeFX accounts come with the same blend of instruments, trading platforms, and STP trade execution. While the new ESMA regulations will limit the leverage on offer to clients on EuropeFX Standard accounts, traders on EuropeFX Pro accounts will still have access to their existing leverage levels, along with early access to all our future product releases, a personal account manager, and the EuropeFX Pro Benefits & Rewards.

Are there any tax implications from switching to a EuropeFX Pro account?

There will be no change to the tax regime on any of our products for holders of EuropeFX Pro accounts.

What happens if I am not eligible for a EuropeFX Pro account?

If you are not eligible for a EuropeFX Pro account, you can still trade on a Standard account with us and get access to the same blend of trading platforms and products.

Do Pro clients lose any protections?

Certain CySEC (or equivalent) guidelines related to information provided by EuropeFX will not apply, including but not limited to guidelines relating to communications and promotions.

Access to the Financial Ombudsman of the Republic of Cyprus will not extend to all professional clients (only those who meet the CySEC guidelines) and as a consequence, may not extend to you. The Financial Ombudsman of the Republic of Cyprus is an independent authority for settling any disputes between CIFs and covered complainants. To assess your eligibility to refer a dispute to the Financial Ombudsman of the Republic of Cyprus, we suggest you contact them directly. You will not be entitled for Investors Compensation Fund (ICF).

Why will the leverage on CFDs for retail clients be limited?

ESMA (European Securities and Markets Authority) has classified CFDs as high risk, complex financial instruments, which may not be suitable for all retail clients. To limit the potential risk to traders, the new ESMA regulations will limit the maximum available leverage to between 1:30 and 1:2 on trading products. These limits will not apply to clients classified as Pro traders.

What is included in my ‘financial instrument portfolio’?

Your ‘financial instrument portfolio’ includes shares, derivatives (only cash deposits made to fund/profits realized from investing in derivatives), debt instruments and cash deposits. It does not include property portfolios, direct commodity ownership or notional values of leveraged instruments.

Do I need to be an existing EuropeFX client to apply for a Pro account?

Yes. The EuropeFX Pro account is only available for existing clients. If you have an existing account with us you may apply for EuropeFX Pro classification. New clients may open a Standard account and then apply for Pro classification.
